Raymond Agalga is a Nuclear Policy Analyst at the Nuclear Energy Centre of Excellence of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Ghana, and a Research Scientist at the Nuclear Safety and Security Centre of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC). He has over a decade of professional experience in nuclear safety, security, safeguards, radiation protection, and non-proliferation.
Raymond is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Physics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where his research focuses on the hydrochemical characteristics and radiological quality of water resources in mining communities. He holds an MPhil in Radiation Protection and is also pursuing advanced studies in International Relations and Diplomacy at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Nuclear Safeguards at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
He has served as an expert, lecturer, and contributor to several International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) programmes and has participated in international missions, technical meetings, and capacity-building initiatives related to nuclear security, safeguards, and non-proliferation. His work has contributed to the development of national policies, regulatory frameworks, security strategies, and human resource capacity in the nuclear sector.
At the IEA, Raymond’s work focuses on nuclear energy policy, governance, security, and Ghana’s nuclear power programme. He contributes to policy research, stakeholder engagement, public dialogue, and evidence-based analysis aimed at strengthening energy security, supporting informed decision-making, and advancing the peaceful use of nuclear technology for sustainable development in Ghana and across Africa.
