Former Chief Justice and Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Justice Sophia Akuffo, has called for measures to reduce the growing caseload of Ghana’s Supreme Court and improve access to justice.
She said many cases should end at the Court of Appeal, particularly those that do not raise new or sensitive constitutional issues.
According to Justice Akuffo, resolving such cases at the Court of Appeal would help ease pressure on the Supreme Court and reduce delays in accessing justice.
“A lot of other matters should end in the Court of Appeal,” she said.
