The Institute of Economic Affairs Ghana (IEA) is seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Policy Analyst to support its work on Ghana’s emerging nuclear power programme. The successful candidate will contribute to research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication aimed at supporting Ghana’s successful development of its first nuclear power plant.

This role is ideal for a candidate with strong analytical, writing, and policy skills, and a keen interest in nuclear energy, infrastructure development, energy systems, and Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.

Key Responsibilities

The Nuclear Policy Analyst will:

  • Conduct research and policy analysis on global nuclear technology trends, regional energy developments, and Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
  • Assess nuclear energy policy, infrastructure development, financing, governance, regulation, and industrial participation issues.
  • Work with IEA leadership to develop workplans, key performance indicators, policy outputs, and public engagement activities.
  • Analyse, synthesize, and present complex information in clear and compelling formats, including briefs, graphics, slide decks, memos, and reports.
  • Draft and edit policy papers, blogs, articles, memos, reports, and other knowledge products.
  • Represent IEA at relevant workshops, meetings, policy dialogues, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Engage with government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and relevant experts.
  • Collaborate with IEA’s international partners, including the Energy for Growth Hub.
  • Support other research, administrative, and programme-related activities within a small, dynamic, research-based nonprofit institution.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong interest in IEA’s mission and Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
  • Excellent writing, editing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and policy issues clearly to different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Professional confidence and maturity to engage with senior government officials, experts, development partners, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in energy systems, nuclear energy policy, infrastructure development, economics, public policy, engineering, law, or related fields.
  • Experience working with a research institution, think tank, government agency, international organization, civil society organization, or related policy environment will be an advantage.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public policy, economics, engineering, law, energy studies, international relations, development studies, or a related discipline.

Location

Accra is preferred. However, remote work with periodic travel may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Term

The position is initially for a 12-month contract. Full-time availability is preferred, although part-time arrangements may be considered for outstanding candidates. Compensation will be competitive and based on experience.
