The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA Ghana) will host another edition of its Views and Reflections Programme on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, bringing together distinguished religious leaders and media representatives to discuss Ghana’s ongoing constitutional review process.

The dialogue, titled “Views and Reflections: The Prempeh Committee’s Report and Government’s Position on Constitutional Review,” will take place at the IEA Dialogue Centre at 2:00 p.m.

The session forms part of the Institute’s effort to broaden public participation in discussions surrounding the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee and Government’s subsequent position on the proposed reforms.

Constitutional reform has significant implications for Ghana’s governance architecture, democratic institutions, accountability arrangements and long-term political development. The IEA therefore considers it important that the process benefits from perspectives extending beyond government, political parties and constitutional experts.

Religious organisations and the media occupy particularly important positions in Ghanaian society. Religious leaders contribute significantly to national dialogue, peacebuilding, social cohesion and discussions about public morality and governance. The media, on the other hand, plays an indispensable role in informing citizens, holding institutions accountable and facilitating debate on matters of national importance.

Bringing these constituencies into the constitutional reform conversation is therefore intended to enrich the national discourse and promote greater public understanding of the issues under consideration.

Distinguished Speakers

The dialogue will feature Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo, President of the Africa Methodist Council; Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, Spokesperson for His Eminence, the National Chief Imam; and Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association.

The speakers will offer perspectives from their respective constituencies on the Prempeh Committee’s recommendations, Government’s response and the broader implications of the constitutional reform process for Ghana’s democracy and governance.

Creating Space for National Reflection

Through the Views and Reflections Programme, the IEA seeks to create a non-partisan platform where different sections of Ghanaian society can critically examine important national policy and governance questions.

The constitutional review process presents Ghana with an opportunity to reflect on more than three decades of constitutional democratic governance and to assess which aspects of the existing framework have served the country well, which require strengthening and where reforms may be necessary.

The IEA believes that any significant constitutional reform should be underpinned by informed public participation and broad national ownership. Meaningful consultation will be important in ensuring that eventual reforms respond to Ghana’s contemporary governance challenges while strengthening democratic stability and institutional effectiveness.

The engagement with religious leaders and media professionals will therefore contribute to the wider national discussion by allowing these important constituencies to articulate their perspectives and highlight issues they consider critical to the future of Ghana’s constitutional democracy.
