As part of IEA Ghana’s efforts to promote sustainable economic growth and development in Ghana, the Institute has commenced a research project on the theme “Ghana beyond Aid: Towards an Industrialised Economy in Ghana”.
In line with this, the IEA Ghana invited Prof. Justin Yifu Lin, Former Chief Economist of the World Bank to share his insights and thoughts on how to develop an industrialised economy. Prof Lin a renowned economist has published several books on the subject.
As part of his visit, the held a closed door meeting with The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, 9th November 2017. The discussions centred around the issue of scaling up industrialisation to promote employment and reduce poverty in Ghana. Prof. Lin shared his experiences of how the creation of industrial parks could be an effective vehicle for attaining this goal. The Vice President expressed keen interest on the insights shared by Prof Lin and extended an invitation to Prof. Lin at the instance of the IEA for the purpose of holding a high level meeting with Ministers of State including the President. The Institute as part of its collaborative research programme with Prof Lin is facilitating this second trip. It is expected that, Prof Lin will return to Ghana in the first quarter of 2018.
